Hello, it's lovely to meet you...

I'm a freelance illustrator and artist based in a small town in the New Forest, nestled by the waters of the Solent.  It's a beautiful area full of wildlife, woods, forest and open heathland.  The sky is big and the land is vast, offering colours and changing landscapes all year round.

Inspiration comes from the nature around me - from the intricacies of details and the subtle unseen, to the simplicity of shape and form.  My work also reflects my love of colour, texture, folk art and images that convey a narrative or a message.

I create joyful, mindful illustrations using hand drawn, painted and printed methods.  I work with a mixture of mediums including gorgeous coloured pencils, pens, inks and paints.  Alongside, I use a range of papers and card - I love the tactile process of working 'hands on' with materials in this way.

My illustrations and art are created for books, publications, educational projects and bespoke commissions for both private and business clients.  I enjoy the process from beginning to end of communicating and collaborating on ideas.  Transforming an initial brief, I love to create art that I can be proud of and which others are delighted with.

Some of my previous projects include working with:

Ali Sparkes (author) https://www.alisparkes.com/

Blue Reef Aquarium (Portsmouth): https://www.bluereefaquarium.co.uk/portsmouth/

Hampshire Music Service: https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/hampshiremusic

Portsmouth Music Hub: http://www.portsmouthmusichub.org/
Shirley Golden (author): http://www.shirleygolden.net/publications.html

Stagecoach Theatre Arts: https://www.stagecoach.co.uk/

In addition to commissions, I also love opportunities to share art with others and have worked with local junior schools to deliver illustration workshops, linked to curriculum and other art activities.  I also have created a range of small, community mural projects working in response to their needs.

A recent addition to my portfolio (and a change to my usual way of working) is a series of images created digitally, using some of the many photos I've taken of local woodland, forest, hedgerow plants and flowers as a starting point. It's an exciting new way for me to work and I love exploring the possibilities of creating in this way.

I also love to make things and apply some of my designs to a small run of art prints, cards, copper animal wall hangings and accessories. These are sold via 'Woodlark' my online shop.  You can find the link at the top of my website. . . pop by and have a browse to find original, individual, handmade items.  Everything I make starts in my heart, is refined with my mind and made by my hands (or in the case of prints and cards, produced by local, eco-friendly printers!).

One of my earliest memories is of drawing - I think I was about 4 years old - I can clearly recall the joy of creating.  With the wonderful colours and smells of the crayon box, and a large sheet of paper in front of me, I was in my element.  And so it continues to this day.

Thank you for taking a moment to visit my site and share my art too.  If you would like to find out more, chat through ideas or wish to get in touch please visit my 'Contact' page.

I'd love to hear from you - Nina
