Hello, it's lovely to meet you...

I'm a freelance illustrator and artist based in a small town in the New Forest, nestled by the waters of the Solent.  It's a beautiful area full of wildlife, woods, forest and open heathland.  The sky is big and the land is vast, offering changing colours and landscapes all year round.

Inspiration comes from the nature around me - from the intricacies of details and the subtle unseen, to the simplicity of shape and form.  My work also reflects my love of colour, texture, folk art and images that convey a narrative or a message.  One of my earliest memories is of drawing - I think I was about 4 years old.  I can clearly recall the joy of creating! With the wonderful colours and smells of the crayon box, and a large sheet of paper in front of me, I was in my element.  And so it continues to this day.

I create joyful, mindful illustrations using hand drawn, painted and printed methods.  I work with a mixture of mediums including gorgeous coloured pencils, pens, inks and paints.  Alongside, I use a range of paper based materials - I love the tactile process of working 'hands on' in this way.

My illustrations and art are created for books, publications, educational projects and bespoke commissions for both private and business clients.  I enjoy the process from beginning to end of communicating and collaborating on ideas.  Transforming an initial brief, I love to create art that I can be proud of and which others are delighted with.

Some of my previous projects include working with:

Ali Sparkes (author) https://www.alisparkes.com/

Hampshire Music Service: https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/hampshiremusic

Marwell Wildlife: https://www.marwell.org.uk/zoo/

In addition to commissions, I love opportunities to share art with others and have worked with local junior schools to deliver illustration workshops, linked to curriculum and other art activities.  I also have created a range of small, community mural projects working in response to their needs.

A recent addition to my portfolio (and a change to my usual way of working) is a series of images created digitally, using some of the many photos I've taken of local woodland, forest, hedgerow plants and flowers as a starting point. It's an exciting new way for me to work and I love exploring the possibilities of creating in this way.

My desire to make things has recently led to me establishing 'Woodlark' - an addition to my illustration work where I apply some of my designs to a small run of art prints, cards, copper animal wall hangings and accessories.  These are sold via my online shop - the link to this can be found in the menu on my website.  You can also follow me on Instagram @_woodlark_  Pop by and have a browse to find original, individual, handmade items.

Thank you for taking a moment to visit my site and share my art too.  If you'd like to find out more, chat through ideas about commissions or collaborations then please get in touch via my 'Contact' page.

I'd love to hear from you - Nina
